OREANDA-NEWS. July 06, 2010. Inter RAO UES OJSC has awarded contracts on transmission of Baltic NPP energy to foreign consumers.

This information has been given to journalists in Moscow by Company Chairman Boris Kovalchuk. "We have serious contracts with consumers who are willing to buy electricity from Baltic NPP", he said.

B. Kovalchuk confirmed that negotiations concerning establishment of the energy bridge with Germany are still carried out. According to him, at present some preparations are also held in order to conclude a contract with Italian Enel, the memorandum with this company regarding joining Baltic NPP project has already been signed. "Now we are preparing materials for Enel, the work is in the active phase and the documents will be ready in the near future ", Boris Kovalchuk said.

Baltic NPP will be located on the territory of Neman municipal district of Kaliningrad region. The state will possess the controlling stake (51%). The plant construction project will be conducted with the involvement of Russian and foreign investors.

In April of this year Inter RAO UES OJSC and Italy’s Enel have signed a memorandum on the development and construction of Baltic NPP. The document provides that Enel, on the basis of the obtained from Inter RAO UES technical and other information, shall decide on its participation in the NPP construction project till July, 2011. The construction of the first power unit will be carried out in the period from 2010 up to 2016, the second power unit — from 2012 up to 2018. Rosenergoatom Concern OJSC is appointed as a construction management company of the plant, SPAEP OJSC (Atomenergoprom OJSC owns 100% of the shares) is recommended as a general designer. The NPP installed capacity will comprise 2 thousand 300 MW (two units with capacity of 1 thousand 150 MW each). Baltic NPP electric power production is estimated as 4.3 billion kWh in 2017, 8.6 billion kWh — in 2018, 12.9 billion kWh — in 2019, 17.2 billion kWh. h — in 2020.
