Remittances to Moldova from Individuals Amounted USD425,02 mn
OREANDA-NEWS. July 06, 2010. As compared with the same period of 2009, it has increased by USD19.78 million, or by 4.9%. According to the National Bank of Moldova, in January-May 2010, about USD 357.18 million, or 84% or the total remittances for this period were sent through the fast money transfers systems.
Total remittances in May 2010 amounted to USD 96.44 million, exceeding the indicators of the same period of 2009 (USD 89.79 million) by USD6.65 million, or by 7.4%. Amount of remittances in January totaled USD 63.22 million, in February - USD 72.46 million, in March - USD 97.67 million, in April - USD 95.23 million.
About 49.4% of all remittances in May accounted for USD, 41.1% - for Euro and 9.5% - for Russian ruble. As it was reported before, the volume of remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through the commercial banks in 2009 amounted to USD 1 billion 182.02 million, down compared with 2008 by USD 478.07 million, or by 28. 8%.
At the same time, USD 982.23 million, or 83.1% of the total remittances in January-December 2009, were sent through the fast money transfer systems. In particular, the amount of remittances in I quarter of 2009 totaled USD 225.69 million, in II quarter - \\$289.03 million, in III quarter - USD 331.53 million, in IV quarter - USD 335.77 million.
The largest amount of remittances in 2009 was sent to Moldova in December - USD 122.14 million, and the lowest - in January - USD 64.3 million. In 2009, 54.1% of all transfers accounted for USD, 40.6% - for Euro and 5.3% - for Russian ruble.
In 2008, the volume of remittances to Moldova from individuals from abroad through the commercial banks amounted to USD 1 billion 660.09 million, increasing over the previous year by 36.3%. The largest amounts were sent from Russia and Italy. According to the World Bank, the Moldovan guest workers’ remittances make up about one third of GDP.
