WB to Grant USD 25 mln to Moldova
OREANDA-NEWS. June 28, 2010. As it was informed in the representation office of the WB in Chisinau, these means are earmarked for support of reform promotion in order to recover the economy and social protection of the population.
The main objective of this credit is to adequately fund priority expenditures of Moldova for economic recovery and social protection of the socially-vulnerable population, to create the basis for overcoming the crisis and stabilize the economic through exports and private investment. The means of the WB are earmarked for the increase of financing of the road infrastructure development, agricultural subsidies, increase the profitability of Moldavian export, particularly of wine products, improve the business environment through a reduction in the amount of time necessary to register a business, and also support the representatives of socially-vulnerable sections of the population because of the recent energy resources’ tariff rate increase.
These means must complement the anti-crisis governmental program by means of stimulating the economical recovery and reducing the impact of crisis on the poor population. World Bank Country Manager for Moldova, Melanie Marlett expressed her hope that the USD25 million loan will accelerate Moldova’s recovery and support economic growth. The credit will complement the IMF-supported program for Moldova.
