ROSNO Insures 2 Thousand People in Karelia against Tick Bites
OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2010. Since April 2010, Karelia-ROSNO branch of the North-Western Directorate has insured 2,000 people under the voluntary medical insurance program "Tick Protection", reported the press-centre of ROSNO.
Under the concluded contracts, 1,300 private clients and 700 employees of the Karelia-based organizations have been guaranteed medical, diagnostic and consultative aid in case of tick bites and the resulting infections: vernal encephalitis and borreliosis.
According to the Rospotrebnadzor, the epidemiological season for tick infections started in Karelia in April. From April till 07 June of the running year, tick bites resulted in 2,527 cases of treatment in the medical institutions of Karelia, including 534 children (as compared to just 1,593 cases in 2009). Since the beginning of the Karelian epidemiological season, doctors registered 9 actual and suspected cases of vernal encephalitis and 5 cases of vernal borreliosis.
