American Trade Mission Opened in Chisinau
OREANDA-NEWS. June 18, 2010. During the opening of the first American trade mission in Chisinau, PM Filat said that the Government of Moldova is interested in attracting U.S. investments in infrastructure, industry, agriculture, and also in new areas such as information technology, which has a great future.
Talking about privatization process, the PM stressed that the Government of Moldova does not see privatization as a way of raising funds in the budget but is interested in state-owned assets, sometimes parasitic, to be placed to produce high added value. Vladymir Filat also expressed the conviction that since the beginning of 2011 in Moldova will have political stability, which will be conducive to business. In turn, the U.S. Ambassador to Moldova Asif J. Chaudhry said that Moldova has a developed work force, very low cost of production, favorable geographical position, and the only thing missing is investment.
He highlighted the IT sector which in three years rose to 10% of GDP. The Ambassador also expressed the opinion that Moldova is moving in the right direction, evidenced by the fact that the World Bank has placed Moldova in top ten on the effectiveness of reforms. Trade mission was initiated by the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau and Bucharest, and organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Moldova (AmCham Moldova) and the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania (AmCham Romania).
The mission objective is to obtain information on investment opportunities and business conditions in Moldova, as well as to improve trade links between companies operating in Moldova and Romania. Delegation in Bucharest consists of representatives from 24 American, Romanian and other international companies. As President of AmCham Moldova John Maksemchuk notes, the level of interest shown in today's event, foreign investors, in particular, several large U.S. companies appearance proves that the Moldovan market is becoming attractive for foreign investors.
