Ukraine Enhances Grain Quality
OREANDA-NEWS. June 16, 2010. Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Slauta had a working visit to Odessa region, where he participated in the meeting on the preparation and organization of harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops of the harvest 2010.
Before the plenary session the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine visited Odessa Plant Breeding and Genetics Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Agricultural Sciences (UAAS) to examine the demonstration ground of cultivars of domestic crop breeding - winter wheat and spring barley.
Victor Slauta also observed the new model of agricultural aviation aircraft, jointly developed by Ukrainian and Russian scientists at Odessa Institute of Agriculture and participated in the ceremony of handing over of harvester-threshers to agricultural producers of the region.
Opening plenary part of the meeting, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine emphasized the need for high-quality grain growing, noting that today importing countries began to raise the quality requirements of wheat. Furthermore, according to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine, the Government keeps a close watch on trends in the world grain market - supply and demand. "We are now working on such a model, that a farmer has a 30 to 60% rate of return from the grain group", Viktor Slauta noted.
The participants were informed about the main objectives and priorities of the agricultural sector development in 2010 and the state of preparation and organization of harvesting of early grain and leguminous crops in 2010, and the nature of harvesting of early grain crops taking into account conditions of this year.
There was also presented a draft concept of the state program of agricultural aviation development in Ukraine.
The meeting was attended by leadership of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ministry of Emergencies, UAAS, Deputy Head of the Council of Ministers of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, deputy heads of regional administrations on the agricultural sector, the Minister of Agrarian Policy of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, heads of major departments of agricultural development of regional state administrations and others.
