Estonia: Export of Goods Jumps 35% in 2010
OREANDA-NEWS. June 15, 2010. The export of goods in April grew 35 percent in current prices compared with April 2009, while the growth in import was by 16 percent, Statistics Estonia said.
The growth in export was last as high in June 2006. Partly, the fast growth in export was also influenced by the low basis of comparison in April 2009, the statistical office said.
In April goods to the tune of 10.5 billion kroons (EUR 0.67 mln) were exported from Estonia and goods worth 10.8 billion kroons were brought into the country. Against last April export grew 2.7 billion kroons and import 1.5 billion kroons.
The foreign trade deficit was 0.3 billion kroons in April, nearly five-fold lower than last April.
Goods worth 7.3 billion kroons were exported into countries of the European Union, accounting for 69 percent of Estonia's total export. The growth in export was by 1.7 billion kroons or 30 percent.
To countries outside the EU goods to the tune of 3.2 billion kroons were exported, half as much as in April 2009.
Imports from countries of the European Union into Estonia totaled 8.7 billion kroons, while import grew by 1.4 billion kroons or nearly one fifth.
The trade deficit with countries of the European Union was 1.4 billion kroons, while there was a surplus of 1.1 billion kroons in trade with third countries.
Compared with April export grew by 8 percent, while import contracted by 14 percent.
