OREANDA-NEWS. June 11, 2010. National Company KazMunaiGas held the 11th annual meeting on labor protection and environment in Astana. The meeting was attended by managers of the company and subsidiaries and KMG deputy chairman of the management board Bolat Palymbetov, reported the press-centre of KASE.

Nurlan Sirazhev, head of labor protection and environment, said - "KMG's unified policy on labor protection and industrial safety, and analysis of accidents and occupational diseases, allows for developing efficient measures to improve the situation".

Every year KMG is allocating sufficient funds for labor protection and reduction of accidents. Frequency rate for accidents involving loss of run time reduced from 0.032 in Y2008 to 0.020 in Y2009.

KMG continued to reduce operational impacts on the environment and cut down emissions at production and processing of crude and transportation of oil and gas.

The group is seeking an effective environmental monitoring system, which is a priority under the Long-term development strategy. The company is exploiting airspace environmental monitoring system and maintaining an environment data base.

In Y2010 KMG has already spent over KZT1.3 bn for environmental protection.

In the mid-term KMG is seeking to accomplish the following tasks:

- Develop a complex environmental program YY2006-2015;

- Perfect the safety, labor protection and environment management system;

- Develop energy and resource preservation programs, implement environmental-clean technologies and equipment under the Corporate energy efficiency program;

- Develop greenhouse gas emission management systems based on the Kyoto protocol tools, and establish a KMG Hydrocarbon fund;

- Improve safety of sea oil operations and found a special unit responding to, and, liquidating consequences of, oil spills.
