OREANDA-NEWS. June 10, 2010. The Cabinet of Ministers intends to create incentives for the building sector in order to commission annually approximately 15 million square meters of housing in 2011-2012. Prime Minister Mykola Azarov stressed this at a public meeting of the Ukrainian Forum "Program of economic reforms: strategies and mechanisms of implementation".

According to Mykola Azarov, in 2009 it was not laid any new construction site in the country, and after completion of projects with 70 per cent readiness we could see decline in the construction industry.

"In 2009 any construction site was not laid. The development of the project documentation was virtually frozen. This means that after completing projects with high-level readiness, we will see the downfall of the building sector. So, we now need to create incentives to revive this work in order to commission annually in 2011-2012 approximately 15 million square meters of affordable social housing", stressed the Prime Minister.

In addition, the Government intends to develop a mechanism under which in every town of Ukraine builders could receive free sites for the construction of cheap housing. However, Mykola Azarov underlined that this concerns only those construction companies that have financial resources to build housing.
