Throughput of Port of Arkhangelsk up by 18% in 2010
OREANDA-NEWS. June 08, 2010. Trade flows via the port of Arkhangelsk in Jan-May 2010 increased by 18% compared with the same period in 2009 - up to 1,634,000 tons. Port Authority statement says, the volume of oil products transshipment for export increased by 16.3% - to 236.6 thousand tons of coal - more than 10 times to 138.7 thousand tons, of timber cargo - by 17.2%, to 197 thousand tons. Coastal shipping of crude oil dropped by 74% - to 25.8 thousand tons, of general cargo - by 5.5% to 168.2 thousand tons. Trade flow of import general cargo increased by 32.7% - to 268.5 thousand tons.
Trade flow at the port in May increased in 3 times - up to 303.1 thousand tons.
The port of Arkhangelsk is located in the delta of Northern Dvina, which flows into the White Sea. Arkhangelsk Port carries out all year round navigation, the Northern Sea Route passes through it. Multitasking of commercial port can be observed in the nomenclature of processed goods: general, cellulose, cardboard, containers, timber, metals, fertilizers, heavy equipment, bulk cargo. Capacity of port of Arkhangelsk can handle up to 4.500 000 tones of freight annually. Cargo turnover in the port of Arkhangelsk in 2009 decreased by 30.58% - up to 3 million 271.6 thousand tons.
