OREANDA-NEWS. June 08, 2010. This is stipulated by the Law on energy efficiency, which is approved by Parliament. The new structure will be created through the reorganization of the National Agency for Energy Conservation.

The adopted law provides for the creation in Moldova prerequisites for improving energy efficiency and reduction of losses, for increased use of renewable energy, development of energy production and renewable fuels. The document envisages the development of economic agents and local government programs to improve energy efficiency. The law establishes mechanisms for financial support for projects to improve energy efficiency and renewable energy. The law establishes requirements for energy consumers on energy efficiency.

Currently, the national economy depends on energy imports, energy intensity exceeds 3 times the level of developed countries, therefore, purchasing power is costly and significantly affects the competitiveness of local products and services. In view of this, important task is to achieve energy efficiency and diversifying energy sources.

At the same time, Moldova accession to the Treaty of the Commonwealth provides the energy amendment and addition to national legislation in the energy sector in accordance with the European ones.
