Volume of Foreign Investment to Moldova in 2009 Decreased by 10 Times
OREANDA-NEWS. June 08, 2010. This was announced by the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Economy of Moldova Valeriu Lazar, noting that in 2008 the net inflow of foreign investments in the republic has exceeded USD700 million. Valeriu Lazar noted that such significant reduction in the inflow of foreign investments in the country was caused by the global economic crisis, which coincided with the political crisis in Moldova.
The head of the Ministry of Economy of Moldova said that the downward trend continues in 2010. According to preliminary estimates, investment in I quarter of this year has decreased in comparison with the same period of 2009 by 20%. Valeriu Lazar stressed that the Moldovan authorities continue to reduce administrative barriers to investors and plan to organize a number of economic forums to attract foreign investments.
In particular, on June 22-25 it is planned to hold the investment week Moldova Business Week 2010 under the motto: "Global Crisis - Challenges and opportunities for Moldovan economy". The main events of Moldova Business Week 2010 will be the VI International Investment Forum and the meetings of the Vienna Economic Forum to be held on June 24-25.
As Valeriu Lazar noted, due to such an integrated format the Investment Week will increasingly contribute to the primary goal of the Government of Moldova to attract foreign direct investment in the national economy.
