OREANDA-NEWS. June 07, 2010. The first well to be drilled from Pad No.109 at the Verkhne-Kolik-Yoganskoe field has produced a nice surprise for TNK-BP’s oilmen: it has a free flow rate of 60 tonnes per day, reported the press-centre of TNK-BP.

Oil gushers are becoming a rarity these days at mature fields. Wells generally tend to flow freely only in the early stages of operation, immediately after they have been drilled.  After a while, the pressure in the reservoir drops falls and the flow dries up.

This is what makes the well at Pad 109 at the Verkhne-Kolik-Yoganskoe field so different from others. It was originally expected to produce 50 tonnes of oil per day, and the additional 10 tonnes are the result of a successful well intervention. A further 5 wells are to be drilled from Pad 109 which, according to preliminary estimates, is expected to contribute around 300 tonnes of oil per day to TNK-BP’s total production.
