OREANDA-NEWS. June 04, 2010. The rate of unemployment in Moldova in I quarter of 2010 amounted to 9,1%, 7,7% increase as compared with the same period of the last year. As it was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, according to estimations of the International Labor Office, the number of unemployed amounted to 102.1 thousand or 11.2 thousand more than in the first quarter of 2009.

The unemployment rate for men was 11.9% (67% of the total number of unemployed), women- 6,1%. The rate of unemployment in the urban areas amounted to 11% and in the rural areas - 7,1%, respectively. The unemployment rate among young people (15-24 years) reached 21%, in the age category 15-29 years-16,5%. In the first quarter of 2010 the economically active population amounted to 1 million 124,7 thousand people, or 4.8% less compared to January-March 2009.

The number of the employed population has exceeded 1 million 22,6 thousand people , or 6,2% less than in the first quarter of 2009. The highest number was employed in agriculture - 223.6 thousand people (21,9% of the total number of employees), or 10,4% less than at the same period of the last year. 14.2% of the total were employed in industry and 59%-in the sector of services. 60,1% of all able-bodied population were employed at the private companies, 32% - at the state enterprises and 7,9% - at ventures with the mixed forms of ownership and with participation of the foreign capital.
