OREANDA-NEWS. May 27, 2010. Law firm SORAINEN has won the “Baltic States Tax Firm of the Year” award for most innovative, international, and cross-border tax advice in the region at the prestigious annual International Tax Review European Tax Awards. This is especially gratifying as it is the first time the Baltic States have been evaluated for the European Tax Awards. SORAINEN was also nominated for the best transfer pricing firm award, reported the press-centre of SORAINEN.

“If the International Financial Law Review awards, which SORAINEN recently won in the Baltics, are the Oscars of the legal world, then the International Tax Review European Tax Awards are the Oscars of the tax world. We were already delighted to be nominated alongside the “Big Four” firms and to compete with them equally for this honoured title, so winning the award means a lot to us,” comments Janis Taukacs, regional head of the SORAINEN Tax & Customs Team, who attended the award ceremony in London.

For the European Tax Awards, SORAINEN was nominated in the Baltics alongside Deloitte, Ernst & Young, and PricewaterhouseCoopers. The awards were given by International Tax Reviewstaff consulted by a large number of tax advisers, private-practice lawyers, tax executives, and in-house counsel. Their evaluation was based on size, innovation, and complexity of tax matters advised between February 2009 and February 2010, and the general capability of the firm’s tax team. SORAINEN Tax & Customs Team based its submission on transaction experience that included tax advice provided to AON, Barclays Bank, Royal Boskalis Westminster NV, and Airo Catering Services.

International Tax Review, part of the Euromoney Legal Media Group, has established itself globally as the most authoritative magazine dedicated to international tax strategy. The annual European Tax Awards presentations are now in their fifth year, though the Baltic States category was included this year only for the first time.
