Moldova and Romania to Increase Energy Security of Both States
OREANDA-NEWS. May 26, 2010. This was discussed during the meeting of the Prime Minister of Moldova Vladimir Filat with the Minister of Economy of Romania Adrian Videanu in Chisinau. The parties have discussed the interconnection of electricity and natural gas systems; considered additional opportunities for cooperation in ensuring energy security of both countries.
In particular, Vladimir Filat and Adrian Videanu have discussed the project of building 400 kV transmission line Balti-Suceava. In the context of definition of alternative options for providing electricity, the sides have considered opportunity of interconnection transmission lines in the direction Ungheni-Iasi within the frameworks of construction of the power plant in Ungheni.
The parties also agreed to build a gas pipeline to connect the national gas supply systems of Moldova and Romania in the direction Ungheni-Iasi, which will supply the natural gas in both directions. Vladimir Filat noted that ensuring energy security is a priority and strategic objective of the Government of Moldova, expressing confidence that the agreements reached between the two countries will be fully implemented.
The premier stressed that energy independence provides a completely different atmosphere and business environment. Vladimir Filat thanked the Romanian minister of economy and his colleagues from the Romanian government for the support provided to Moldova, stressing that the majority of the agreements reached before have been successfully implemented. In this regard, the Prime Minister of Moldova called for the development of a clear plan and priority projects to be implemented in order to achieve tangible results.
These issues will be discussed during the visit of the Moldovan government in Bucharest. Adrian Videanu has confirmed that his country would continue to support European course of Moldova in all directions of cooperation.
