OREANDA-NEWS. May 19, 2010. Azovstal Iron and Steel Works, part of Metinvest Group has achieved the record breaking durability of the converter lining: 3 967 smelts.

Economiceffect from such durability will comprise UAH 1.7 mln. Per annum, increase of converter steel production will comprise over 20 thous. tpa.

Durability of the lining of 3 967 smelts is one of the highest among Ukrainian metallurgical companies, while the lining manufacturers guarantee is 2 600 smelts. On the whole, average durability of lining in Ukraine is 2 762 smelts, Russia – 3 450 smelts, Europe – 3 500 smelts. Previous record of Azovstal’s lining durability was 3 805 smelts.

High durability was assured by implementation of innovative solutions in process regimes of converter steel making. Increased lining durability allows extending converters’ time between overhauls and decrease number of re-linings by 1.5 times.
