OREANDA-NEWS. May 18, 2010. First wind energy plant will be built this year in the mountains in Tashkent region as part of the wide-scale program of alternative energy sources development.

A 750 kW plant has been installed near Charvak water reservoir, and specialists are currently measuring the wind parameters.

The 40-m high anemometer tower was built by Uzbekenergo company jointly with South Korean Doojin Co. Ltc.

According to Uzbekenergo, country’s main energy operator, the launch of the power plant will bring 2.3 million kWh additional energy every year, allowing to save 70,000 cu m of gas.

The yearly average wind speed in the region is 4.3 meters per second, and 6.6-7.1 meters per second in the winter period.

Wind energy plants require 4+ meters per second wind speed for efficient operation.

Such wind speeds are also observed in Karaalpakstan, Navoi, Bukhara and Kashkadarya regions, making this regions attractive for building new wind energy plants in the future.
