Russia and Turkey Inked Akkuyu N-Plant Construction Deal
OREANDA-NEWS. May 13, 2010. Russia and Turkey signed an international agreement concerning the cooperation in construction and operation of a four-reactor nuclear power plant planned for Akkuyu site in Mersin Province.
The signing ceremony was held on May 12 in Ankara in witness of Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Erdogan.
The draft agreement was approved by a resolution by the Russian government of May 9. According to the document, the Russian party within three months commencing the agreement entering into force will start procedures to set up an engineering company to implement the project, including the Akkuyu N-plant operation. This company is to be the plant owner, including electricity the plant would produce.
