Throughput of Tallinn Port up 11.9% in 2010
OREANDA-NEWS. May 12, 2010. Trade flows via Port of Tallinn (Estonia) in January-April rose to 11,706,800 tons, a 11.9% rise over the same period a year earlier, the Port Authority statement said. The port’s container volumes gained 3.9%, to 49,832 TEUs.
The four-month statistics show liquid cargoes volumes reached 8,460,000 tons, down 1.7% from Jan-Apr, 2009. The port reported the largest spike, as much as 2,2 times in dry cargo transshipment, to 1,928.300 tons. In the reporting period the number of ship calls dropped by 4.8%, to 2,171 units.
Port of Tallinn is rated the third largest seaport, next to St. Petersburg and Primorsk, of the Baltic Sea. The Port comprises five so-called port zones: Muuga, Old City Harbour, Paljassaare, Paldiski South and Saaremaa. In 2009 freight traffic via Tallinn seaport totaled 31.597.000 tons.
