Sochi 2014 Approved Plan of Hydrometeorological Support
OREANDA-NEWS. May 05, 2010. SC Olimpstroy and Rosgidromet have agreed upon the plan of joint actions for hydrometeorological support and avalanche protection of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi.
The project will allow to ensure complete technical readiness for hydrometeorological support of test sporting events in 2011-2013 and the 2014 Winter Olympic Games.
At the meeting, which took place in SC Olimpstroy and was chaired by Vice President of the Corporation Stanislav Ananyev, the project of the hydrometeorological support system of the Olympic Games was approved. The document is based on the requirements of the International Olympic Committee and international sports federations of winter sports to competition safety systems with regard to difficult meteorological conditions of the region.
Representatives of Rosgidromet, Autonomous Non-Profit organization “Organizing committee “Sochi 2014”, administrations of the Krasnodar territory and the city of Sochi, special-purpose scientific-research institutes and representatives of companies, responsible for construction of Olympic Venues in the mountain cluster, participated at the meeting.
Deputy Head of Rosgidromet Valery Dyadyuchenko noted that the main task of the project is the use of the advanced technological tools and automatically controlled weather stations in course of hydrometeorological observations in the area of Sochi. In addition to that, it is necessary to implement modern automatically controlled technologies for making short-term weather forecasts in the area of holding the Olympic Games, upgrade and re-equip infrastructure of the communication and telecommunication system for collection and transmission of meteorological information.
The set of means of active influence on snow avalanches provides for extension of the system of forced outburst of avalanches “GAZ.EX”, implementation in 2010 of small-sized avalanche protection means, development of technical means of cutting snow cornices.
At the meeting the parties agreed to use the geographic information system, developed by SC Olimpstroy, as means of storage, processing and visualization of data on dangerous natural processes, including avalanches, mudflows, landslides, hydrologic events.
SC Olimpstroy sent maps of dangerous natural processes and classified lists of related risks to companies, responsible for construction in the mountain cluster. The evaluation was based on the analysis of field observations effected within the framework of engineering surveys in the territory of the mountain cluster.
