OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2010. The cotton sowing campaign is completed in the country. Turkmen cotton growers used effectively every fine spring day and hour to conduct the sowing campaign in a timely manner. This year it is planned to harvest 1.05 million tons of the strategic crops on the 550,000-hectare sown areas

The cotton growing associations throughout the country carried out the preparatory work. Agricultural workers ploughed up and laid out fields in a proper manner to sow the valuable industrial crop and stored 66,000 tons of high-quality seed grain. John Deere, Case, Belarus-1221, MTZ-80X tractors, sowing machines and other equipment were engaged in sowing cotton.

It should be noted that different cotton varieties were sown in each region depending on local soil and climatic conditions. For example, Yoloten-7 middle staple cotton variety is sown in Ahal, Lebap and Mary Velayats, 133 – in all the velayats except for Dashoguz. 14C-4727, Dashoguz-120 and Serdar middle staple cotton varieties are sown in the northern region. Cotton growers of Lebap and Balkan Velayats sowed C-2606 middle-staple cotton variety along with other varieties. 9871-Y, 9946-Y, Yoloten-14, Yoloten-32 fine staple cotton varieties were sown in Ahal and Mary Velayats.

Cotton sprouts have appeared on the majority of plantations. It should be noted that seeds were treated with P-4 agent to prevent plants from diseases that allowed shortening the sprouting period.
