OREANDA-NEWS. May 04, 2010. In March, Eesti Energia sold 710 gigawatt hours (GWh) of electricity on the domestic market outside the Eesti Energia Group, which is 2.6% more than in March 2009, reported the press-centre of Eesti Energia.

Eesti Energia sold 402 GWh of electricity to business customers in February (which is 2.6% more than a year ago), 172 GWh to residential customers (3.7% more) and 136 GWh to network operators (1.1% more). Eesti Energia’s sales of electricity were impacted by the ambient temperature, which was one degree less than last year in March, as well as by the projected growth of industrial output.

Export of electricity amounted to 239 GWh in February, which is 44% more than a year ago. The growth in the export volumes was due to increased export of electricity to Lithuania in connection with closure of Ignalina nuclear plant and the opening of Lithuania’s electricity market.

In March, Eesti Energia’s average selling price of electricity to the domestic market, not including network services, was 474 kroons per megawatt hour (kr/MWh). The average base electricity price during the same period in Nord Pool’s Finnish region was 864 kr/MWh.

Eesti Energia’s sales of thermal energy amounted to 193 GWh in February, which is 2.3% more than a year ago in March. Thermal energy sales were impacted by tighter competition in the Tallinn thermal energy market, which was balanced by the lower ambient temperature.
