OREANDA-NEWS. April 30, 2010. Uralmashplant JSC and Kamensk-Uralskiy Metallurgical Plant signed a contract for equipment modernization. The contract provides that Uralmashplant shall carry out modernization of 300MN vertical-assembly stamping press and two conveyor-type heating machines No 4 and No 5 located at KUMZ.

Gazprombank has acted as a creditor of the project and Sverdlovsk oblast Government has facilitated the receipt of the contract.

Kamensk-Uralskiy Metallurgical Plant JSC has operated "SHLOEMANN" press over 60 years. Still the press is the most high-power one at the enterprise.

Within this period Uralmashplant specialists have designed and manufactured various parts of press mainframe as well as repaired press upper plate and thereby contributed to the equipment stable and effective operation.

Present modernization of the press enables the enterprise to move on to a qualitatively new and more advanced level of operations. Thus KUMZ management examines the possibilities of cooperation with leading airlines Airbus and Goodrich.

The modernization project provides for high accuracy and thus high standard of production. Automatic handling of blanks will make it possible to shorten auxiliary period and enhance productivity of the machine. Also the project covers modernization of two heating machines, including replacement of heating elements and control equipment. The heating process is to be automated. The automatic control system shall regulate every technological parameter.

Preparatory construction and repair works shall be performed prior to the equipment shutdown to minimize the modernization period required. Equipment assembly and setting-up are to be performed during major overhaul of the press. The machine commissioning is scheduled for the first quarter of 2012.

Within the frame of the project realization Uralmashplant shall act as an integrator. The strategy implies certain transitions, e.g. from procurement of separate units and mechanisms to procurement of metallurgical complexes including technology. At that Uralmashplant acts as a general contractor and encourages his partners to get involved into the project as subcontractors. Thus, "Oilgear" (USA) - one of the world leaders in the field of design and introduction of hydraulic-control projects as well as press process-control systems - shall perform modernization of press hydraulic control system. It is planned to engage eight companies as subcontractors to carry out design, construction and assembling works.

Kamensk-Uralskiy Metallurgical Plant (KUMZ JSC) manufactures aluminum and aluminum-alloy ingots, rolled sheets, structural sections, welded pipes, drill pipe, bars, wire, stamped components of various configurations, refrigerator heat exchangers, painted sections and structures, corrugated sheet metal, etc. At present KUMZ exports a significant part of its production. The plant delivers aluminum in-process goods to 46 countries, including Europe, America, Asia, Africa and Oceania.
