FESCO and Nurminen Logistics Launch Innovative Container Service
OREANDA-NEWS. April 28, 2010. On April 20 the first FESCO container block train arrived to Buslovskaya station on Russian-Finnish Border, marking the launch of the new pilot project by FESCO and a Finnish Logistics company “Nurminen Logistics”, offering clients direct intermodal service from
The train, operated by Transgarant, contains thirty eight 80-feet platforms loaded with Finnish industrial goods in containers. The train was dispatched from Hamina station in
The new service expands the portfolio of FESCO container block trains, first launched in 2007. Valuable cooperation on behalf of “Russian Railways” allowed for smooth paperwork and accelerated dispatching of the train.
Another interesting feature of the project is the new container loading arrangement on a platform. By using so-called “doors outside” positioning, FESCO managed to significantly accelerate customs inspection procedure, further contributing to overall reduction of the transit time.
The train is expected to cross the Russian territory in 9 days, reaching the Vostochny port.
FESCO and Nurminen Logistics believe that the new service is a very competitive offering, attracting more and more clients. Key advantages include “one stop shop” integrated service from a single provider, guaranteed availability of rolling stock and container equipment, and – most importantly – a significant reduction of transit time compared to traditional ocean routes.
