OREANDA-NEWS. April 21, 2010. The Republic of Karelia is recognized as one of the best ten regions of Russia in the sphere of development of information and communication technologies.

Results of The Best Region in the Sphere of Information and Communication Technologies – 2010 competition were announced in Moscow last Friday. To participate in the All-Russian seminar where results of the competition were announced Deputy Chief of the Administration of the Head of the Republic of Karelia Vladimir Voinov proceeded to Moscow. He has received the award Karelia was honoured with among the best ten regions of Russia.

As follows from the analytical report presented at the seminar, the Republic of Karelia wins first and second places in Russia on a number of important parameters, such as use of Internet technologies by medical and preventative treatment facilities, provision of computer equipment for schools and access to the universal computer network for schoolchildren.

– These activities describe Karelia as one of the most advanced regions of Russia in this regard and indicate that we cope with performance of tasks set by the President in the sphere of development of information technologies better than others, – Vladimir Voinov says. – At the seminar it was repeatedly emphasized that successes of regions in this hi-tech sphere directly depends on the position of governors. In the policy of the Republic of Karelia development of information technologies is a priority, and this policy starts to pay off visibly.

It is worth mentioning that besides the Republic of Karelia among the ten leaders there are such unpoor regions like Tatarstan, Chuvashia, Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tyumen Region, Khanty-Mansi autonomous district, and Karelia has even managed to take the lead over them on a number of basic parameters.
