USA May Order Remote Sensing Satellite in Russia
OREANDA-NEWS. April 14, 2010. US GeoEye considers ordering a remote sensing satellite from Russian NPP VNIIEM. The project was discussed during the meeting of Russian and US experts.
The agenda covered technical aspects related to joint use of the future Russian constellation which includes Kanopus-V, Belka, Meteor spacecraft, as well as GeoEye’s constellation.
The US party offered to consider production of a remote sensing satellite(s) with medium resolution for GeoEye by NPP VNIIEM. GeoEye needs the satellite with such capabilities for imaging large pieces of land, though lacking it currently in orbit.
The participants of the meeting emphasized that GeoEye’s interest towards NPP VNIIEM is caused by integrated and systematic approach applied by the Russian company under the Neoglobe project. Presentation of NPP VNIEEM’s unprecedented approach in the project was made during the GeoVlast-2 conference, which took place at VNIIEM premises on April 1, R&D.
