Estonia and Azerbaijan Interested in IT Cooperation
OREANDA-NEWS. April 09, 2010. At the meeting held today, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip and Ilham Alijyev, the President of Azerbaijan, declared that the relations between the two countries are great, but for the further development of relations in the field of economy, the countries are mainly interested in cooperation in the field of information and communication technology.
At the meeting, Prime Minister Andrus Ansip introduced to President Aliyev the Estonian e-state and IT solutions. “We are ready to share our knowledge and experience,” Ansip said. According to President Aliyev, the government of Azerbaijan, in cooperation with Estonian companies, is preparing the e-state solution, and he was hopeful that the cooperation will turn out to be fruitful. At that, the cooperation perspectives are improved by the information technology agreement signed between Estonia and Azerbaijan.
At the meeting, the economic situation in Estonia and Azerbaijan and the strategies for overcoming the economic crisis were discussed in more detail. Ansip and Aliyev noted that in both countries, it has been the conservative financial policy and constant work towards increasing the competitiveness of the country that have helped to cope with the difficulties.
Among other things, energy security and the Nabucco gas pipeline were also discussed. The gas pipeline is an energy project of great significance for the European Union, the implementation of which would increase security of supply and satisfy the growing need of Europe for natural gas. At today’s meeting, Aliyev confirmed the commitment of Azerbaijan regarding the supply of gas to the Nabucco pipeline and stressed that Azerbaijan is interested in the implementation of the project as soon as possible.
The visit of Ilham Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan, to Estonia, is the first state visit of the President of Azerbaijan in the history of Estonia, mainly aimed at increasing political dialogue, developing a mutual contractual base and economic cooperation.
