Moldova to Use USD 2,6 bn on European Projects Management
OREANDA-NEWS. April 07, 2010. During the press conference on Tuesday, the Minister of Finance Veaceslav Negruta has informed that in the next 3-4 years the ability to absorb certain funds received from the external partners will be tested. The Minister said that the success in managing these funds and grants will depend on the management of other European projects.
He specified that financial assistance provided by donors will be used for such priorities as rehabilitation of roads, agriculture, water supply and improvement, health, energy, efficient public administration, regional development, etc. Thus, out of USD 2.6 billion allocated for 2010-2013, 52% will make grants, and about 48% - funds that Moldova will receive on the concessional rate, with a grace period of 5-10 years, under the interest rate of 0%-1,2%.
The minister said that foreign aid consists of the projects on which negotiations began several years ago, during the Communist rule. According to him, the original amount that Moldova was supposed to obtain amounted to USD 512 million, and the former leadership managed to get only USD 262 million.
