Ukio bankas, implementing the most modern electronic banking services, has offered the third electronic signature option to its clients – from now on it is possible to sign by means of electronic signature in electronic banking system Eta bankas, electronic signature certificates are therein contained in Personal Identity Card of a national of the Republic of Lithuania. The system implemented at Ukio bankas is the first commercial decision for which electronic signature certificate in Personal Identity Card of the Republic of Lithuania will be used.

Up to now users of electronic signature certificate in Personal Identity Card of the Republic of Lithuania could sign only while using services provided by the state enterprises.

Ukio bankas is the only and the first in Lithuania having provided a possibility to connect to electronic banking system and to sign by all three means of electronic signature possible in Lithuania – mobile electronic signature, electronic signature in USB key and electronic signature using Personal Identity Card of the Republic of Lithuania.

“We were seeking to offer our clients all three existing in Lithuania options of electronic signature since we think, that it is the most modern, safest and the most convenient personal identification means. Today we have provided a possibility to connect to electronic banking system using official document of the Republic of Lithuania – a brand new personal identity card. We suppose that offering all three electronic signature options will allow to increase popularity of electronic identification and will encourage to chose the said means of signing”, – said Jolita Kiaushiene, Director of Electronic Banking Department.

New decision of Ukio bankas and Ministry of the Interior specialists provides a possibility to the clients to connect and perform transactions via electronic banking system Eta bankas using a brand new personal identity card.

Personal Identity Card of the Republic of Lithuania is the main personal document of a national of the Republic of Lithuania proving his/her personal identity thus the card may be used for personal identification in electronic space and electronic data signing.

Brand new personal identity cards have been issued since 1st January 2009, they have inscriptions of Residents’ Register Service at the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Lithuania (National Certification Centre) a personal identification in electronic space certificate and a qualified certificate. A personal identification in electronic space certificate is intended for identification of a person in electronic space and a qualified certificate provides a possibility to sign official electronic documents by safe electronic signature.

In 2005 Ukio bankas was the first bank in Lithuania having granted a possibility to sign by electronic means using a mobile telephone. In 2009 there was a proposal to update the mobile signature version and electronic signature in USB key.

Ukio bankas intends to continue further development of electronic signature application – a service of remote agreements conclusion operating in electronic banking environment is intended to be developed providing a possibility for persons or companies to conclude and to sign the agreements having legal force.
