TNK-BP Boosts Buguruslan Oil Reserves by 300% in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. April 05, 2010. Geologists in Buguruslan have marked their professional holiday with a wonderful gift by discovering another new oilfield. Thanks to a well intervention at the Tarkhanskoe field by Oil and Gas Production Unit No.3 a flow of oil has been obtained from a new structure. The well is currently producing up to 50 t per day. According to Buguruslanneft’s Chief Geologist Sergey Krotov, the subsoil of Buguruslan remains bounteous to this day. “In more than 70 years of field developments many things have changed, in particular oil production technology and the standard of geophysical surveys”, says Krotov. “Using the new methods oil can be extracted more efficiently and without damaging or destroying the subsoil structure. The new discovery has forced us yet again to totally rethink the geological section. During prospecting work we often come across untouched accumulations in what seem to be totally depleted fields”.
Although field depletion is an irreversible process, by applying new technologies Buguruslanneft was able to boost reserves by more than 300% last year. “We managed to replace our annual production three times over”, explains Krotov. “And the reserves that we had have been confirmed, both by discovering new accumulations and by updating reserve estimates. Last year we drilled the Novo-Mikhaylovskoe field with very high flow-rates of over 100 t. We’ve now begun drilling the prospective Barsukovskoe field and have drilled up the Osinovskoye field. The Company is helping us to expand our resource base by providing the necessary funds for drilling.”
Krotov noted that he was very satisfied with the work of the entire team of geologists and congratulated his colleagues on their professional holiday by wishing them new discoveries, happiness and prosperity.
