Russian Navigation System Obtains Two Redundant Glonass Satellites
OREANDA-NEWS. March 29, 2010. Two redundant Glonass satellites are available now in the Russian Global Navigation constellation, Yury Urlichich, Russian Space Systems company DG, informed mass media during the InfoSpace forum on Friday.
"We decided to have two back-up satellites in GLONASS, similar to GPS ", Urlichich said.
GLONASS constellation currently comprise 23 spacecraft: 17 are in nominal operation mode, 3 (launched on March 2, 2010) are to be commissioned, 1 satellite is under technical maintenance, 2 spacecraft provide orbital redundancy for the system.
