OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2010. Based on the data of the System Operator National Dispatch Centre (NDC SO) there was a new power consumption record fixed. On 10 February 2010 at 20.00 by Astana time the peak electrical load of 12 442 MW was observed in Kazakhstan UPS. Therewith generation of power plants reached 11 871 MW, and power deficit (1532 MW) in the southern area was covered by Kazakhstan North-South Transit transmission lines (1235 MW) and power flow from the Central Asia (297 MW).

At a time when there are lasting and abnormally cold temperature conditions in the northern, central and eastern regions, the System Operator provides stable and reliable power supply.

The situation in the power system of Central Asia countries is as follows: Tajikistan power system operates in isolation, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan power systems operate in parallel with Kazakhstan UPS. Due to decrease of temperature and lack of generating capacities in Uzbekistan, electricity is limited to 600 MW during evening pick hours. In this connection since February natural gas delivery to Zhambylskaya GRES has been decreased from 85 to 15 thous. cubic meter/hour.

For comparison: consumption during pick hours in the neighbouring countries today made about 7600 MW in Uzbekistan power system and about 2000 MW in Kyrgyzstan power system. The previous peak electrical load in the country was recorded on 25 December 2009 and made 12 315 MW (12 219 MW in 2008).
