Commercial Port of Vladivostok Increases Grain Handling Volumes
OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2010. In January-February 2010 the port handled 30,400 tonnes of grain: cabotage - 9,970 tonnes, export -20,440 tonnes. Export wheat prevails in total grain handling volumes.
According to chief operations director Sergey Lopunov, starting January 2010 grain handling volumes show strong exports. It is planned to handle more than 30,000 tonnes export grain in Q1. "Export grain arrives in the port in hopper cars, then it is handled as per scheme wagon-vessel. Currently the port is studying the possibility of handling and delivery of grain in containers and big bags", noted S. Lopunov.
Commercial Port of Vladivostok is the only FE port which is capable of handling export, import and cabotage grain. The existing cargo handling facilities enable the port to handle up to 1 m tonnes of grain per annum as per scheme wagon-vessel. At present the port is actively engaged in the implementation of dedicated grain terminal development project with a capacity of 1.5 m. tonnes annually.
