Foreign Ministers of CSTO Conducts Informal Meeting
OREANDA-NEWS. March 26, 2010. Informal meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) was held in Moscow under the chairmanship of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Sergey Lavrov.
Meeting participants reviewed progress in the implementation of the decisions of the CSTO Collective Security Council and preparations for its next session in June 2010.
A thorough exchange of views took place on the current state of affairs and on further steps in foreign policy coordination. In this context, measures were discussed for consolidated support of the initiatives of the Republic of Kazakhstan as the country presiding over the OSCE in 2010 and for pushing the joint initiatives of the CSTO member states in this format.
The ministers discussed the state of and prospects for the situation in and around Afghanistan, and underlined the increasing need to build up efforts in the Afghan sector.
The CFM also adopted statements of the foreign ministers of the CSTO member states concerning the 2010 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Nonproliferation of Nuclear Weapons, regarding collaborative work on a European Security Treaty, in conjunction with the Republic of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of the OSCE in 2010 and also in conjunction with the 65th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
The next CFM meeting will be held on the eve of the Collective Security Council session.
