Students of Kursk Developed Equipment for Micro- Satellite
OREANDA-NEWS. March 25, 2010. During their future EVA, cosmonauts of the International Space Station will manually launch Arissat-1 micro-satellite, which is similar to RadioSkaf — an obsolete space suit with scientific equipment, RSC-Energia informed.
"There are no more obsolete suits in the ISS to be used as a shell for RF and scientific equipment. Thus, we had to design a frame of 50х50х30 cm, so it could go through the hatch door. Solar arrays are installed on 6 sides of the frame, and different equipment is located inside”, Sergey Samburov, RSC-Energia employee and technical manager of the project, great-grand-son of Konstantin Tsiolkovsky.
According to him, cosmonauts will launch the satellite manually during the EVA in Nov. or Dec. 2010. RF-station installed on the satellite will transmit TM-data in RF-amateur range of 145 MHz, and four video-cameras will broadcast space views of the Earth. Arissat-1 will also broadcast phrases by children of different countries about the jubilee of Yury Gagarin’s space mission to be celebrated in 2011.
Arissat-1 scientific payload was developed by the students of Kursk State Technical University. The payload is intended for measuring the particles in the near-Earth space.
Arissat-1 active orbital life is estimated as 6- 9 months.
