The Company completed another project based on the domestic equipment, which made it possible to expand the capacity of the existing fiber-optic infrastructure and to increase the capacity of channels and communication networks in three Siberian cities. The project partner was Russian Company IRE-Polus LLC, a leader in the development and production of fiber lazers. Under the project,
“With the growing volume of information and requirement of Internet users for fast communication channels, the Company needs new fiber-optic technologies, in particular, the technologies of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing DWDM. They make it possible to increase manifold the capacity of the network constructed and to reach a high speed of data transmission. We plan to implement these projects within the
This is the first cooperation between IRE-Polus and Sibirtelecom. Founded by a Russian physicist Valery Gapontsev IRE-Polus is affiliated to IPG Photonics, International Group of Companies, and is the leading Russian producer of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing equipment (DWDM). Under the first project, Sibirtelecom purchased 21 multiplexing equipment sets. Using this equipment on the basis of the multiservice network, Sibirtelecom OJSC will build a high-speed backbone to connect the big Siberian cities. Realizing this project, the Company also supports the domestic telecommunication industry, in particular, the Russian producers. Until the end of 2010, Sibirtelecom plans to increase the share of investments in purchasing the domestic equipment from 40.4% in 2009 to 48.6% of the total volume of the investments assigned for the purchase of equipment, cable products, and software.
