OREANDA-NEWS. March 22, 2010. The head of the chief trade policies department of the Ministry of Economy of Moldova Inga Ionesii said at the briefing that this document would raise the trade relations between Moldova and EU states to a new level. Signing of the Agreement on free trade with the EU will lead to liberalization of trade and will contribution to growth of investors’ trust in Moldova’s economy. This scenario will enable the country to use its competitive advantages and achieve positive long-term economic results.

To promote discussions with the EU over this subject, the Ministry of Economy together with the governmental structures completed a questionnaire of the EU consisting of over one hundred questions from all economic sectors. The valuation mission of the EU for Moldova will be set up soon. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Moldova Valeriu Lazar said earlier that the country was using the privileged order of goods supply to the European Union given the autonomous trade preferences provided to it, however, its preservation depends on the EU’ good will.

The Ministry of Economy’s head underlined that following other EU member states’ example, Moldova will come out in favor of provision of a 5-10 year transition period to it for the full opening of its market for goods imported from the EU states. At the same time, preferences for the free penetration of Moldovan goods to the EU market are planned to be received at once.
