SOCAR: Start of Shah Deniz Project Is Kept Back by Lack of Technology
OREANDA-NEWS. March 12, 2010. Vagf Aliyev, the head of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan’s Investment Department, stated that besides lack of gas sale agreements, sanctioning of Stage 2 of the Project is held back by uniqueness of this field.
“Shah Deniz-2 is going to become a unique stage of development of gas condensate fields in the world. As within the project wells with depth of more than 7,000 m will be operated under abnormally high pressure. In this connection from angle of preparation of concept and technology of field’s operation Stage 2 is a difficult project,” he said.
Shah Deniz-2 is expected to produce 16-25 bn cu m of gas a year against 8.6-9 bn cu m within Stage 1. The field’s reserves are estimated in 1.2 trillion cu m of gas that puts it in ranks of the world’s largest offshore gas condensate fields.
