Majlis Approved Kazakhstan-Russia Bilateral Treaty Baikonur Complex
OREANDA-NEWS. March 05, 2010. Majlis has approved legislative draft “About ratification of Treaty between Kazakhstan Republic an Russian Federation on effective utilization of Baikonur complex”
Legislative draft was presented by Head of Kazakhstan Republic National Space Agency Talgat Musabaev and International affairs, defense and security committee member Saginbek Tursinov.
For the purpose of reciprocal cooperation development in the scope of joint activity on further utilization guarantee of Baikonur cosmodrome, Kazakhstan Republic and Russian Federation have signed a Treaty about cooperation development on Baikonur complex effective utilization dated January 9th 2004.
This treaty acknowledges the importance of Baikonur cosmodrome infrastructure modernization and preservation of its historically meaningful objects. Both Russian and Kazakhstan specialists and enterprises will participate in realization of joint projects on equal conditions.
In the scope of this treaty Kazakhstan Republic and Russian Federation consider the necessity of joint activities to ensure ecological safety and resolve the space activity related problems of environmental protection.
Treaty also provides for development and construction of “Baiterek” launch complex on Baikonur cosmodrome.
Russian Federation's term of lease of Baikonur complex is extended 'till 2050.
