RTS Released Stock Market Weekly Trading Results

OREANDA-NEWS. March 4, 2010. Over the week of February 24 – February 27, 2010, the RTS Index went down by 0.86% to reach 1,410.85 points (1,423.13 points as of February 19, 2010). Most of the negative impact on the RTS Index dynamics was related to the declining prices for ordinary shares of Sberbank (SBERS) (minus 7.61 points) followed by ordinary shares of Gazprom (GAZPS) (minus 3.92 points) and ordinary shares of OJSC "OC "Rosneft" (ROSNS) (minus 2.70 points).

The RTS Standard Index, the blue chips index, lost 2.12% to reach 9,154.18 points (9,352.65 points as of February 19, 2010). The "second-tier" stock index – RTS-2 experienced an increase of 2.61% closing at 1,572.03 points (1,532.05 points as of February 19, 2010). Last week most of the key economy sectors represented on the Russian stock market demonstrated a positive trend. The largest growth was reported by the power sector, with the RTS Electric Utilities Index gaining 3.33%. A significant increase was also shown by the telecom sector, with the RTS Telecom Index going up by 2.97%. The largest decline was demonstrated by the oil & gas sector, with the RTS Oil & Gas Index shedding 1.29%.

Last week the US dollar depreciated by 0.25% against the ruble to reach 30.04 rubles per US dollar (30.11 rubles as of February 19, 2010).

The total securities trading volume on RTS for the week February 24 – February 27, 2010 equaled USD8.19 billion (246.19 billion rubles*), including all types of trades. The trading volume on RTS Standard totaled USD1,198.18 million.

The week's top sellers were Sberbank ordinary shares (SBER) with a turnover of USD607.84 million followed by Gazprom ordinary shares (GAZP) with a turnover of USD315.74 million and ordinary shares of ОАО "LUKOIL" (LKOH) with a turnover of USD71.46 million. The share of each security in the total trading volume made up 49.37%, 25.64% and 5.80% respectively.

The week's top gainers were preferred shares of OJSC Bashneft (BANEP) that went up by 13.33% to USD17 followed by ordinary shares of WBD Foods (WBDF) – by 6.81% to USD51 and ordinary shares of JSC "Pharmstandard" (PHST) – by 3.79% to reach USD61.65.

The week's top losers were ordinary shares of ОАО "Pharmacy Chain 36,6" (APTK) that fell 5.60% to reach USD3.2 followed by ordinary shares of OJSC Sibirtelekom (ENCO) that lost 4.35% to reach USD0.055 and ordinary shares of Sberbank (SBER) that shed 4.17% to reach USD2.53.
