OREANDA-NEWS. March 3, 2010. In Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia there has been held a regular session of the Council of Directors of travel companies of the republic.

The session considered results of Karelia's participation in the largest international tourist exhibition MATKA – 2010 held in Helsinki (Finland) in January and discussed issues of preparation for spring tourist exhibitions and fairs. It was noted that active participation of enterprises of tourist industry of the republic at the state support from the Ministry of Economic Development of the RK in the Vth anniversary exhibition of Intourmarket – 2010, MITT and MITF international exhibitions to be held in spring in Moscow will promote growth of tourist flow to Karelia and increase in the contribution of tourism into economy of the region.

Individually the session of the Council considered the course of preparation for the International tourist forum Karelia – 2010. Tourism and Modernization of Russian Economy and Tourist Karelia – 2010 exhibition that will be held within the scope of the Forum on June, 8-10.

The Department of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare for the Republic of Karelia presented information on results of inspections of travel companies in 2009. Decrease in the quantity of revealed infringements in activity of travel agencies, absence of complaints about Karelian tour operators for improper rendering of tourist services was pointed out as a positive fact.

On results of discussion of this issue it was decided to carry out a special training seminar for representatives of tourist companies in April in Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Karelia and invitate there experts of the Department of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare for the Republic of Karelia to elaborate measures for prevention of the most typical infringements in work of tour agencies when they conclude contracts with clients and bring information to the knowledge of consumers of tourist services.

Representatives of travel companies and hotel enterprises of the republic, Ministry of Economic Development of the RK, the Department of the Federal Service for Supervision in the Sphere of Protection of Consumer Rights and Human Welfare for the Republic of Karelia and Euroforumexhibition agency have taken part in work of the Council.
