OREANDA-NEWS. March 02, 2010. It is said in the Russian company’s press release. According to it, the Moldovan Hydroelectric Power Station (Dnestrovsk), a member of the “Inter RAO EES” group, signed contracts on direct supplies of electric power with the Moldovan state company Energocom and private company RED Union Fenosa.

The contracts will be valid for 13 months, starting from March 1, 2010. Inter RAO EES will supply about 3.5 billion kilowatt-hour of electric power to Moldova’s consumers, making up about 75% of the home energy consumption (about 25% of the demand are covered by local heat stations). Since December 2009, when the law on liberalization of Moldova’s energy market became effective, the distributing companies received the opportunity to choose electric power suppliers on their own.

In these conditions, they signed contracts with the Moldovan Hydroelectric Power Station which obtained the exclusive right to cover the whole volume of home consumption. Inter RAO EES has supplied electric power to Moldova since the beginning of 2009. Earlier, it was done by Ukrainian exporters, and electric power of the Moldovan Hydroelectric Power Station was supplied only to Romania.

The Moldovan Hydroelectric Power Station is the daughter structure of the Inter RAO EES. As to the set capacity, the station is the largest asset of the Inter RAO EES group and one of the most important energy objects in Europe. The main kinds of fuel are gas and coal. Electric power wasn’t supplied from the Moldovan Hydroelectric Power Station to Moldova since autumn 2005.
