OREANDA-NEWS. March 01, 2010. According to the National Statistics Office’s data, the tobacco goods production volume in January 2010 totaled 33.3 million leis. To compare, production of this category of production in January 2009 reduced by 79.6% compared to January 2008.

The share of tobacco production in the total cost of industrial production in January of this year made up 2.8%, while this indicator for the year of 2009 amounted to 1.9%. The degree of the influence of the change of the production volume on the total production index in January 2010 wa +2.5%. Home tobacco production is mostly presented by cigarettes of the Chisinau tobacco factory Tutun-CTC.

Cigarette production in Moldova had a negative tendency in 2003-2008, caused by the growth of import and change in consumer preferenes. According to the Tutun-CTC’s data, 7 billion cigarettes were produced in 2004 and 3.8 billion cigarettes – in 2008 (according to importers’ data – 4.2 billion cigarettes). Tobacco goods in the amount of 412.9 million leis were produced in Moldova in 2009, 16.2 percent more than a year earlier.
