OREANDA-NEWS. February 26, 2010. OJSC MegaFon, the first pan-Russian mobile operator, general partner of the XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Winter Paralympic Games 2014 in Sochi shall support "Russia on top of the world" project. The purpose of the project is to conquest the highest summits in all parts of the world prior to 2014 Winter Olympic Games.

Representatives of MegaFon and the ambassador of Sochi 2014 legendary alpinist and chairman of the Alpine Federation of North Ossetia, Kazbek Hamitsaev attended press conference dedicated to the project.

"Russia on top of the world" project was launched in 2008.In addition to promoting physical culture and sports among population its key goals also include studies in medicine in particular to identify the human ceiling in extreme conditions. The project uses technological innovations. Thus, ascend routes are set using computer technologies engaging satellite communications. All ascends shall be captured on video and broadcasted live from sports camps. Besides that, the most advanced solutions are used for sports equipment.

“MegaFon has coverage on top of most summits, where other operators do not.  When we go climbing we usually take several handsets with MegaFon sim cards to communicate with the mainland "- said Kazbek Hamitsaev, Chairman of the Alpine Federation of North Ossetia. MegaFon also provides coverage in North Caucasus Republics: it covers all large and medium towns, almost all the small villages and mountain gorges. “This communication is perfect for active and mobile people that require it in inhabited and remote locations"- he also adds.

Documentary and book with photos and diaries of the expedition produced after completion of every ascend. Deluxe edition, summarizing all the ascends completed shall be released in 2014.

The project is supported by the Government of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, Russian Alpine Federation, Alpine Federation of North Ossetia-Alania, "Kazbek" - Alpine Club of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania. Participants of the project include athletes with world-wide reputation. Three well-known alpine doctors, three alpine directors - cameramen, radio specialists, mechanical engineers, experienced hydrometeorology specialists, geologists and glaciologists shall also participate in the project. The final triumph of the project shall be the ascend to the highest European mountain - Elborus (5642m) carrying the Olympic flame during the opening of 2014 Winter Olympics.
