Moldova Reduced Electric Power Consumption by 0,7% in 2009
OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2010. Last year, Moldova for the first time since 2000 reduced the electric power consumption level due to the decrease in consumption by industrial consumers because of the financial-economic crisis, InfoMarket was informed at the National Power Regulating Agency.
The reduction of electric power consumption was mostly due to the decrease in demand in the zone served by the electricity distributing enterprise RED Nord and the independent consumer Ciment-Lafarge (Rezina cement works). RED Nord’s consumption volume reduced by 2.7%, Ciment Lafarge’s – by 34%. Consumption grew in the zone served by RED Union Fenosa (Chisinau, Central and Souther electricity distributing networks) – by 1.5%, and in the zone served by RED Nord-Vest – by 0.1%.
The consumers categories analysis shows the reduction of demand from industrial consumers and public institutions, in particular, those funded from local budgets. The first category decreased consumption by 132.4 million kilowatt-hour (12.7%), the second one – by 17.3 million kilowatt-hour (6.2%). The rest categories of consumers increased consumption from 5 to 10%. Domestic consumers raised consumption by 78.6 million kilowatt-hour (5.7%), commercial enterprises – by 38.7 million kilowatt-hour (9.3%), agricultural consumers – by 5.4 million kilowatt-hour (7.1%).
