OREANDA-NEWS. February 25, 2010. In January 2010 the output of industrial enterprises of all forms of ownership in Moldova totaled 1 billion 799.2 million leis (USD141 million) or 5% more compared to January 2009.

As it was informed in the National Bureau of Statistics, the growth in the industrial output in January was due to the increased production in the processing industry - 0,1% and energy sector - 17,2%, which led to the increase in overall production volumes by 0,1% and 5,3%, respectively.

The increase in the industrial output was also due to the growth in production of tobacco industry- 7,5 times, bricks and tiles - 7,5 times, as well as distilled alcohol beverages - 39,9%, milling industry products- 36,8%, paper and cardboard - 35.4%, equipment and facilities for radio, television and communication -35.4%, drugs and pharmaceuticals - 19,9%. Production and distribution of electricity has increased by 19,5%, vegetable, animal oils and fats - by 13,2%, wines - by 12,2%, supplies of steam and hot water - by 10,7%, production of cocoa, chocolate and confectionery sugar products - by 5,1%, production, processing and preserving of meat and meat products - by 1,6%.

At the same time, the output in the mining industry has reduced by 73,3%, metallurgy – by 62%, production of wood and wood products - by 60,2%, processing and canning fruits and vegetables - by 33,4%, production of machinery and equipment – by 32,7%, mineral water and soft drinks - by 30,4%.

The decline in publishing, printing and information business amounted to 26.3%, production of rubber and plastic products-18,7%, footwear -17.5%, furniture -12,4%, varnishes and paints -10.6%, textile products - 8,5%, clothing - 2,5%, dairy products - 1,9%. The statistical office noted that the decline in the output in these sectors is due to the problems with sales, in particular, the decrease in number of applications from foreign and local companies, as well as shortage of raw materials, finance, etc.
