Russian Scientists Discovered Supernova
OREANDA-NEWS. February 18, 2010. Russian scientists discovered a supernova in PGC 51710 galaxy, Herdsman constellation. The discovery accepted officially by the International Astronomical Union was made with the help of telescopes located close to the city Kislovodsk, at the Moscow State University’s mountain observatory of Caucasus.
According to the observatory chief Petr Kortunov, the 40-mm-telescopes automatically noticed the star.
The data collected are transferred to the internet for further research. Kortuniv also informed that the observatory is still in process of construction. The main 2.5-m-telescope is still not in place. The construction is planned for completion in 2010-2011. By that time, the observatory will comprise a telescope tower, workshops, administrative facilities, and computer center.
