Belarus May Resume Power Export to Poland
OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2010. Belarus intends to resume the export of electricity to Poland in the near future, Belvneshenergo Director General Vladimir Kuzmich said at a conference, Belarus in Europe, in Minsk on 10 February.
According to Vladimir Kuzmich, Belarus has suspended the export of electric power to Poland as the Polish partners offered to pay a low price. The two sides are completing the negotiations on possible resumption of power supplies. Belarus is expected to start the export of electric power from the Bereza state district power plant to the Polish electric power substation Wulka Dobrynska.
Vladimir Kuzmich stated that the two sides are also interested in constructing 400kV DC power lines Bialystok-Narew. “DC lines are necessary for synchronizing the Belarusian and Polish energy systems and securing uninterrupted supplies,” he said. The project was supported by the European Commission.
According to him, Belarus has been steadily boosting cooperation with Russia in the electric power area. In particular, the Belarusian side has offered Russia to partake in the construction of a new steam gas unit with the capacity close to 400-500MW at the Bereza power station. The estimated cost of the project is USD 500 million. “I find it an interesting proposal. Russia, however, has not responded to it yet,” the Belvneshenergo Director General said.
