OREANDA-NEWS. February 11, 2010. According to decision of the Council of Tallinn University of Technology (TUT) the Chair of Law and Technology will be established within Tallinn Law School. The Chair will be run by Professor Katrin Nyman-Metcalf, a recognised expert of telecommunications law, reported the press-centre of TUT.

"Estonia as a country which has set innovation and technological progress as a priority also needs legal expertise in the field," said professor Nyman-Metcalf. The Chair will focus in study and research activities in information law, industrial property and copyright. Cooperation is planned with other academic units of TUT in the field of technology as well as with innovation and technology companies.
 
Tallinn Law School at the Faculty of Social Sciences of TUT will continue with three chairs and one centre. In addition to the newly formed Chair of Law and Technology, the Chair of Public Law continues with professor Ulle Madise focusing on constitutional and local government law and procedures related to planning and construction, and the Jean Monnet Chair of European Law which was established with support of the European Commission. In addition the Human Rights Centre continues its activities.
 
There are nearly 600 students studying law at Bachelor or Master level at TUT, out of which nearly 150 study in English. Tallinn Law School continues the tradition of 12 years of internationally competitive legal studies and research, which began at Concordia International University Estonia and continued at Audentes University until it merged with TUT.
